Getting serious with Canon

Well, I have upgraded to a one numbered canon - the awesome 7d. Along it's side I have my lenses, but most of them are prime lenses (fixed focal length). So, the portraits, most landscapes, urbanscapes etc are fitting into my focal lengths. Also, the 7d has crop factor of 1.6x. . .
So, lately I've been across the country shooting some interiors and I am in a need of a wide angle, but yet a PRO  lens. I had to use the old kit 18-55, just to shoot wide with 18mm.

Which lens should I take?

I'm closest to the 17-40 f4 L. But I don't like that it goes from ultra wide to normal lens. (from 17mm which is very wide, to more than 35mm). Because of it the lens has more blades -> more blades that move = lower quality. The cost: around 800 EUR + shipping.

My biggest wish, I think is the 16-35mm f2.8 L which is really amazing. Maybe the best wide lens ever made. But it also costs waaay too much for me right now (around 1500 EUR + shipping).

I'm very frustrated that I can't buy a lens for 800-900 EUR that covers these kinds of lengths that I need. I can buy 10-22mm, 20-35mm, but I'd like something like 16 or 17 - 24 or 35. Also preferably with a red L next to it. The L marks the superior build and optic quality of canon - it's the best stuff you can buy.

Have you got any experience with these kinds of problems? Which lens do you recommend?
